For many people, life feels like it’s coming fast. Skills and competencies learned in college and mastered in the workforce are becoming outdated, replaced by modern solutions and new ways of doing things. This isn’t necessarily bad. Another name for change can be progress, and nobody wants to be stagnant. Nevertheless, if you’re feeling anxious about the pace of change and its implications for your place in the world, your ability to earn an income and achieve social mobility or maintain a work-life balance, you’re not alone.

 

 

One employee survey found that nearly 40% of employees are concerned that their jobs may become obsolete, and 71% of respondents want to do something about it by updating their skills more often. Executives seem to share this sentiment. A 2023 executive survey revealed that executives believed nearly half of the skills critical to today’s workforce won’t be relevant by the end of 2025. A similar number think their employees are not prepared for this transition. The takeaway is simple: the only constant is change.
