AREA BIGGBY STORES FUNDRAISE FOR LOCAL HOMELESS SHELTER

“HAVE A HEART FOR THE HOMELESS” FUNDRAISER BEGINS FEB. 18

EAST LANSING, Mich. Feb. 5, 2013 – For the third consecutive year, mid-Michigan area BIGGBY COFFEE locations are teaming with East Lansing’s Haven House to raise money that will help support local homeless families. From Feb. 18 – March 3, customers can do their part by purchasing paper hearts for $1, $5 or $20 each at more than 20 different participating BIGGBY stores.

In the past, the “Have a Heart for the Homeless” campaign has generated more than $1,500 which has gone to help provide one and two parent homeless families with not only a place to stay, but with basic necessities like toilettes and school supplies. Currently, Haven House is the state’s only family-oriented homeless shelter.

“At Haven House we take homeless families in together as a unit, rather than splitting them up like most other shelters do,” Angie Mayeaux, the Executive Director of Haven House, said. “We also provide all their meals, and the counselling they need as individuals, and as a family to get them back on their feet.”

Haven House, located at 121 Whitehills Dr. in East Lansing, has been assisting homeless families since 1983 and relies on grants as well as business and personal donations to operate. With the goal of teaching self-sufficient behavior, stability, and financial responsibility, Haven House has been able to care for and find permanent housing for more than 150 families every year.

“We are so grateful to partner with BIGGBY again this year, and are always amazed at the outpouring amount of support we see during this time,” Mayeaux said. “It’s great to stop in at the stores and see all the pink hearts hanging on the wall and windows. We are so thankful for the help from everyone involved.”

For purchasing a paper heart, customers can write their name on it and display it at the store for the remained of the fundraiser. All the proceeds donated will go directly to Haven House.

“Working with Angie and Haven House always feels so rewarding for my stores and for all the other locations involved as well,” Lori DeYoung, BIGGBY franchisee, said. “We hope to go above and beyond what we have done in the past, and thank all our customers in advance for coming out and helping such a great cause.”

About BIGGBY COFFEE®

East Lansing, Mich.-based BIGGBY® COFFEE opened a single store in March of 1995 based on the founding principle that coffee-lovers and the coffee-curious alike would benefit from a less pretentious approach to the standard gourmet café paradigm. BIGGBY COFFEE introduced connoisseur-worthy drinks with pronounceable names like Teddy Bear and Caramel Marvel, and barista staff surprised guests with simple gestures like free kazoos and bouncy balls for no other reason than to brighten their day. The “Big ‘B’”on the orange background caught on, and today BIGGBY COFFEE has 163 cafes open or under contract across nine states including:  Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Florida, and Texas.  For more information, visit www.biggby.com.
