BIGGBY® NEW HUDSON HONORED WITH 2019 BUSINESS OF THE YEAR FROM THE KENSINGTON VALLEY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

East Lansing, MI, July 16, 2019–BIGGBY® New Hudson has been recognized with the 2019 New Business of the Year Award from the Kensington Valley Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes businesses for noteworthy accomplishments, long-standing contributions to the community, and significant community service efforts.  Additionally, BIGGBY® New Hudson was  recognized with the 2019 Business of the Year award from the Oakland County Board of Commissioners for enhancing the local community.

“BIGGBY® COFFEE is a people focused franchise, it’s a place where the people served are just as important as the coffee poured,” said Jamie Stepanian-Bennett, vice president of marketing at BIGGBY® COFFEE. “We celebrate BIGGBY® New Hudson and Karissa for being recognized for their hard work and dedication to the community. With core values like be happy, have fun, make friends, and share great coffee, BIGGBY® COFFEE strives daily in our stores and at a corporate level to put people and our communities first.

Owned by Karissa Canfield,  BIGGBY® New Hudson began operating in 2014 and has been committed to be an active member of the community since opening its doors.  With a mission to improve the New Hudson and surrounding communities, Canfield and her team have developed a number of unique programs to help make a difference.

One of those programs support local schools by selecting a couple days a month to welcome students to engage in games and activities while teachers act as guest baristas.  On that day, Canfield donates $1 of every beverage sold to the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).  Another event that the BIGGBY® New Hudson team supports is Cowboys Kicking Cancer, a family picnic for the Kids Kicking Cancer organization. The team attends the picnic and provides a free lemonade and iced tea bar for families to enjoy. One of the team’s favorite organizations to support is the Desert Angels organization, which provides an opportunity to send care packages to combat troops.  With the support of its customers, team New Hudson has sent over 200 packages filled with coffee bags, cards and candy to show love and support troops.

“We love being involved in the community, so for others to recognize what we’re doing, it makes us feel validated and know that we’re making a difference,” said Canfield. “It’s validation that we should keep doing what we’re doing, and to do even more.”

BIGGBY® COFFEE, East Lansing, Mich.-based, was started with a single store on March 15, 1995. One year later, and on the cusp of opening a second location, Bob Fish and Michael McFall, on a handshake and $4,000, decided to franchise the concept. BIGGBY® COFFEE’s cultural values of Make Friends, Have Fun, B Yourself, and Share Great Coffee help coffee-lovers and the coffee-curious alike benefit from a less pretentious and fun approach to the standard gourmet cafe paradigm. Besides connoisseur-worthy drinks with pronounceable names like Teddy Bear® and Caramel Marvel®, BIGGBY® baristas provide a unique experience focused on brightening their customers’ day and supporting them in building a life they love. The “Big ‘B’” on the orange background caught on, and today BIGGBY® COFFEE has more than 230 cafes across 9 states and counting including Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Florida, and Texas. In 2018, BIGGBY® launched an Area Representative Program and currently has 8 Area Representatives in 6 states.
