BIGGBY COFFEE TO REPLACE STARBUCKS IN OKEMOS, MI MEIJER – OPENS NOV. 1
Local gourmet coffee retailer will open the location in time for the holiday shopping season!
OKEMOS, MI., October 4, 2011 – Mastering your holiday shopping will be easier than ever this season at the Okemos, MI Meijer (2055 W. Grand River Ave) thanks to the help of the newest BIGGBY COFFEE opening in the shopping center on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
The cafe will be located at the south end of store and is taking the place where the Starbucks café once stood. For store franchise owner, Mohamed Shetiah, opening in the Grand Rapids-based shopping center means new potential for BIGGBY COFFEE and all the excitement that goes along with it.
“The Midwest is BIGGBY COFFEE country and we have been working very hard to reflect that in places like Meijer,” Shetiah said. “When two Michigan-based businesses like us can work together, it’s a win-win for not only both companies but for the customers and the local economy as well.”
Shetiah has been in the BIGGBY COFFEE franchise system since 2001, when he bought the very first BIGGBY location opened off the campus of Michigan State University from company CEO and co-founder, Bob Fish. Today, Shetiah and his brother, Fathy, own 21 locations throughout Michigan and Ohio.
“We are pleased to welcome Biggby Coffee into our Okemos Meijer store,” said Frank Guglielmi, director of public relations for Meijer. “The popularity of the Biggby brand and menu will be a great addition for customers looking for a quick meal, light snack or beverage while shopping in our store.”
In July 2011, BIGGBY COFFEE opened its first café inside a Meijer in Petoskey, Michigan. Another café is also under development in the Dewitt Meijer, which is scheduled to open later in October.
The café will offer the full BIGGBY COFFEE menu including, brewed coffee, specialty lattes, tea lattes, frozen drinks, creme freeze smoothies and more! Hours of operation will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Sunday.
About BIGGBY COFFEE®
East Lansing, Mich.-based BIGGBY® COFFEE opened a single store in March of 1995 based on the founding principle that coffee-lovers and the coffee-curious alike would benefit from a less pretentious approach to the standard gourmet café paradigm. BIGGBY COFFEE introduced connoisseur-worthy drinks with pronounceable names like Teddy Bear and Caramel Marvel, and barista staff surprises guests with simple gestures like free kazoos and bouncy balls for no other reason than to brighten their day. The “Big ‘B’” on the orange background caught on, and today BIGGBY COFFEE has 137 cafes open or under contract across seven states including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Texas.
