Biggby Coffee cafe coming to Beckley Road

A Biggby Coffee cafe is poised to open in Battle Creek sometime in March, the franchise owner and an official for the company say.
The East Lansing-based franchise company is expected to open a cafe at 5466 Beckley Road, Suite F, adjacent to Minges Creek Chiropractic in the Minges Creek Plaza, according to Katie Koerner, public relations assistant for the company, and Tom Dammer, the franchise owner.
Koerner, who said the company is awaiting permission from the landlord to occupy the site, observed in an earlier interview that approximately 12 to 15 workers typically are hired to staff a Biggby Coffee location, a figure Dammer confirmed Thursday.
No definite figures are available for the local cafe's eventual staffing, they said. Dammer said the employees chiefly would work part-time but that some workers would have
extended hours.
Biggby Coffee was founded in 1995 as Beaner's and changed its name to Biggby Coffee in late 2007. Its nearest current locations in the Battle Creek region are at 1110 W. Michigan Ave. in Marshall and at 5913 Gull Road in Kalamazoo.
The company has 135 cafes open or under contract across Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Texas, according to its website.
