Every gram of coffee that goes into your cup comes from somewhere…from someone. Co-CEO Bob Fish and his wife Michelle are traveling the globe to find coffee farmers doing the right thing for their people, their communities, and our planet. Bringing a name, a place, and a face to every cup of coffee we serve. Introducing BIGGBY® COFFEE and OneBiggIslandInSpace’s Farm-Direct relationship with Wana Chipoya and Living Hope International.

Living Hope International, nestled in Zambia’s Copperbelt, 10 miles outside of Ndola, is a unique space housing both an orphanage and a coffee farm. The orphanage cares for vulnerable children, providing essentials and education. The 47-acre farm also comprises of dorms, a dining hall, a recreation area, and a school set to open in 2024.

On a plateau 4,265 feet above sea level, it defies coffee farm norms—instead of a rainforest, it features flat fields with orderly rows of coffee trees interspersed with native shade trees. From seedling to hand-picked beans, it’s all done on-site. After final processing, they travel to Lansing, Michigan to be roasted.

Wana Chipoya, the coffee producer at Living Hope, recently finished his agronomy degree in June 2023. He’s eager to fully immerse himself in farm work, driven by his belief in coffee’s potential to aid the orphanage and local community. Balancing farm work and studies, his values align closely with BIGGBY® COFFEE’s pillars of Faith, Confidence, and Courage. Wana’s passion for coffee farming and community upliftment drives him, and he strives to ignite excitement in everyone on the coffee journey.
